Role Overview

An experienced Senior Site Manager is required to lead the refurbishment of a complex listed building in Huddersfield. The role involves full responsibility for day-to-day site operations, ensuring works are delivered safely, to a high quality standard, and in line with conservation requirements, programme and budget. The successful candidate will have proven experience working on refurbishment projects, ideally involving heritage or listed assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overall management of site activities from start to completion

  • Ensuring works comply with listed building consent, conservation requirements and approved methodologies

  • Managing subcontractors, direct labour and suppliers to achieve programme milestones

  • Maintaining high standards of health & safety, including RAMS reviews, inductions and daily briefings

  • Coordinating with the Project Manager, design team, consultants and stakeholders

  • Overseeing quality control, inspections and snagging to ensure works meet required standards

  • Managing logistics, access constraints and sequencing typical of refurbishment and live environments

  • Monitoring progress, reporting on programme, risks and opportunities

  • Maintaining accurate site records, permits and compliance documentation

  • Liaising with local authorities, conservation officers and client representatives as required

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager on refurbishment projects

  • Experience working on listed or heritage buildings is highly desirable

  • Strong understanding of traditional construction methods and refurbishment techniques

  • Excellent leadership and communication skills

  • Ability to manage complex interfaces and problem-solve effectively on site

  • Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation and best practice

Qualifications

  • SMSTS

  • CSCS Black Card

  • First Aid at Work

  • Relevant construction qualification (HNC/HND/Degree or equivalent)

  • Heritage or conservation training desirable but not essential
