Our client are a leading main contractor which operate across a wide range of sectors and specialisms, such as retail, leisure, commercial, accommodation and education, combining both traditional construction and construction services as well as development . Dating back almost 100 years and with offices across the UK, our client remain family owned and very true to their original values, ethos and culture. To maintain ongoing growth, our client are now looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager to join the Pre-Construction team in the East Midlands office.
The successful Design Manager will be involved in the co-ordination of those areas of the design process on preconstruction project(s) under their control to ensuring that the projects are devised in line with the most efficient design and that the design team produces required information to the correct level of detail and in accordance with deadlines set while maximising potential profit gains.
·Working as part of the Design and Bid team to secure design & build projects between £5m - £40m.
·As a Design Manager you will be tasked with identifying risks and opportunities during tender stage to maximize quality and value.
·Reviewing design information, selection of contractors and value engineering.
·Interfacing with clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
·The Design Manager will ensuring efficient Management of the design team and review and agree design programme, deliverables and cost parameters.
·Maintain information flow and overview design team's co-ordination and verification process.
·Provide advice and guidance on build ability of design proposals to design and construction teams.
·To co-ordinate with the Heads of each department and drive the processes of designing the solution(s), estimating the costs and planning the implementation of projects in order to meet or exceed the customers' requirements.
·To recognise contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and to find opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit.
·To implement your employers policies procedures and processes including those for SHE, pre-construction and risk management.
·With Head of Estimating propose and implement the preconstruction cost budget for project(s).
·3rd level qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering or other Construction disciplines with at least 8 years' experience with main contractors and/or recognised consultancies.
·Recent experience operating in the UK in a similar Design Manager role getting involved in preconstruction aspects on projects from £5million+.
·Excellent organisational, planning and time management skills; able to manage projects simultaneously without compromising on standards and quality.
·Problem solver underpinned by sound construction knowledge and experience
·Working knowledge of equipment and systems.
·Ability to develop friendly and professional customer focused relations with others.
·Confidence and ability to manage sub-contractors
·Self-driven, results-orientated with a positive outlook
